Introduction
CTI came about as a result of a DOD initiative to develop an Automated Test System (ATS) hardware/fixture interface that would standardize the footprint and assure mechanical and electrical interoperability between past and future ATS. A joint committee of industry, end-user and DOD representatives adopted and approved CTI as the system that would meet the requirements set forth in IEEE 1505.1. The ARGCS program proved the concept by demonstrating cross service interoperability between current test systems from the Navy, Air Force, Marines and Army.
CTI consists of a core unit of 4 slots up to 26 slots in a combination of 4 – 4 – 14 – 4 segments. The basic IEEE 1505 specification defines the mechanical attributes of the system including power, signal and micro-coax contacts and connector modules. The IEEE 1505.1 version of the specification uses the same connector modules and contacts as the basic specification but each pin is assigned a specific location and test function. This assigned pin map is part of the IEEE 1505.1 specification. The scalable interface allows the end-user the economy of building ITA’s that use only the test assets required for a specific UUT.
